Frequently Asked Questions

These are the most frequently asked questions about our Currency Update Service.

  • Can I get currency data to import into a database or spreadsheet?
  • Yes. If you need data for commercial purposes, such as for import into databases, accounting software, or multi-currency pricing for your website, we can provide it. Data is available in JSON, XML or CSV format via our XE Currency Data API service.

    You may not extract currency data from the Currency Update Service, or use the Currency Update Service for commercial purposes. Our Terms of Use Agreement specifically prohibits you from doing so.

  • I've registered, but I haven't started receiving updates yet. What's wrong?
  • Did you confirm your subscription?
    When you subscribe, you are immediately sent a confirmation request to the e-mail address that you specified. You must confirm your subscription to be placed on the list. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail, you may have provided an invalid e-mail address.

    Did you configure your spam filters?
    If you confirmed your subscription and are still not receiving your updates, we recommend you check your spam filters. To ensure that you receive our updates, set your spam filters to accept e-mails from xe.com.

    When all else fails... try again.
    If you have received the confirmation request and replied to it, but have not received the welcome message, try replying again. It usually takes less than half an hour to receive the welcome message. If you have resent your confirmation message but have still not received your welcome message, contact us at currency@xe.com.

  • Can I specify a time for the daily currency update email to be sent to me?
  • Unfortunately, this is not possible with the email service. However, if you are interested in receiving currency updates in a specific time, check our XE Currency Data service which allows you to gain access to rates as of your preferred time.
  • I received your mailout, but none of the columns line up. What's wrong?
  • If you see our sample mailout, everything lines up quite nicely. If you're having trouble, your mail software is probably mangling the message. Make sure you are using a fixed width font in your mail program.
  • How can I change the base currency, e-mail address, or language?
  • To change your subscription information, please click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of your update and then resubscribe.
  • Can I specify a lock-in time for the rates to be updated?
  • Unfortunately, this is not possible with the email service. However, if you are interested in receiving currency updates in a specific time, check our XE Currency Data service which allows you to gain access to rates as of your preferred time.
  • Can you resend me the previous currency update email(s) that I didn't receive or accidentally deleted?
  • Unfortunately, we cannot send your previous currency update emails; however, you can find previous currency rates at our Historical Currency Rate Tables.
  • Are the currency rates provided in the email updates buy/bid or sell/ask rates?
  • The rates in our free information services are neither "buy" nor "sell" rates. Instead, they are mid-market rates derived from the mid-point between the "buy" and "sell" rates from global currency markets. Our free information services always list the mid-market rate because it indicates the value of a currency that is not weighted towards buying or selling. Consumer clients or small to medium sized businesses cannot access these rates.

    "Buy" and "sell" rates include overheads and profit margins that are independently set by foreign exchange providers; their rates can vary a lot and will differ from the mid-market rate, so we recommend you shop around. You can also check out XE's online money transfer services, offering cheap transfer options.

  • How do I unsubscribe?
  • To unsubscribe, click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of your daily e-mail update.
